Song from Jimmy "Ann Donohoe was her name"

Created by Paul one year ago

To the tune of ‘There was an Old Woman from Wexford’.
Lyrics by Jim Donohoe written on the 8/2/23 in memory of his sister Ann.

Ann Donohoe was her name.
There was a young woman from Wexford Town,
Ann Donohoe was her name,
She spoke of the town so often,
I swear it drove some folks insane.

She left there as a ‘young one’
as often was the case,
but just one mention of its name
put a smile upon her face.

To all of us that knew her
she had a heart of gold,
and a little bit of purple
To sing of when we are old.

She loved to stroll along the Main Street
and back along the Quay,
and, talk to a dozen people
who would struggle to break free.

Whilst King Street and William Street
Were her old stomping grounds,
both the Faythe and Bishopswater
at times she could be found.

She was a proud yellow belly
and everybody knew,
She didn’t care that most people
just didn’t have a clue.

She was fond of airs and graces
But what you saw is what you got,
And if you gave her too much strife
she politely told you, you’re a gob shite!

If you walked into a room
and her voice you could not hear,
there was a 99% chance that she
wasn’t even there.

She has left her mark on all of us,
life will never be the same,
gone but not forgotten,
Ann Donohoe was her name.
